“GPS is wrong” can describe three different problems: the phone places you incorrectly, the compass points the wrong way, or the map itself contains a bad road or destination pin. Identify which failure you have before resetting settings or reporting the map.
Read the blue dot before troubleshooting
A large pale circle around the blue dot means the app is uncertain about your position. A dot in the correct place with the direction cone pointing sideways usually indicates a heading or compass issue. A correctly located dot beside a nonexistent road, wrong entrance, or misplaced business suggests a map-data problem instead.

- Blocked satellite view: garages, tunnels, buildings, terrain, and some vehicle structures weaken signals.
- Indoor use: GPS performs best with an open view of the sky.
- Precise location disabled: the app receives only an approximate position.
- App permission denied: the navigation app cannot access location when needed.
- Android Location Accuracy disabled: Wi-Fi, cellular, and sensor assistance is reduced.
- Battery Saver restrictions: location updates may be less frequent.
- Airplane mode or no data: satellite positioning may continue, but assisted location and live map data can suffer.
- Compass interference: magnets, accessories, or calibration problems can rotate the heading.
- Thermal problems: an overheated phone can reduce performance or shut down features.
- Stale app state: a navigation process may need to be closed and reopened.
- Outdated app or operating system: an installed bug may already have a fix.
- Incorrect map data: the phone knows where it is, but the road, address, or pin is wrong.
Fix the problem in a useful order
- Park safely and move outdoors or away from a structure if possible.
- Check that Location Services and precise location are enabled for the navigation app.
- Turn off Battery Saver temporarily and confirm Wi-Fi or mobile data is available.
- Follow the app's calibration prompt, then restart the app.
- Restart the phone and install available app or system updates.
- Test in an open area you know well.

When it is probably the map
If two devices place you correctly but both show the same wrong road or destination, collect the exact address, road name, direction of travel, and correct pin. Report that issue after the trip rather than repeatedly resetting the phone.
